WASHINGTON: On Saturday, the United States joined Israel in launching powerful airstrikes across various centers in Iran. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz clarified that this joint operation by both countries aimed to eliminate Iran's nuclear and missile threats.
Following the attack, Iran completely closed its airspace. International media outlets, including CNN and the New York Times, citing US officials, reported that American forces were directly involved in these strikes. Officials told CNN that the attacks are ongoing and described them as "not a minor operation." This has sparked fears of a major war in the Middle East.
Explosions were reported in various parts of the Iranian capital, Tehran. There are also reports of missiles impacting near the office of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Following the attack, a nationwide state of emergency was declared in Israel. Fearing a retaliatory strike from Iran, citizens have been instructed to remain near bunkers.
Status of Leaders: There are unconfirmed reports of missiles impacting near the office of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran has stated that Khamenei has been moved to a secure location. While Iranian media claims President Masoud Pezeshkian is safe, Israeli media (Channel 12) reports that the operation to eliminate the Iranian leadership has been a "major success."
Scale of the Attack: Israeli sources suggest this is not a one-day operation and that the initial phase of strikes could last at least four days. The primary targets are Iran's missile production centers and launch pads.
Iranian Retaliation: Iran has already launched more than 35 ballistic missiles toward Israel. Additionally, there are reports of attacks against American military bases in the Gulf region. Airspace has been temporarily closed in the UAE (Abu Dhabi), Bahrain, and Qatar due to missile threats.
