CAIRO: Hamas has handed a positive response to the latest Gaza ceasefire proposal to mediators.
"Hamas has handed its response to mediators, and the movement is ready to begin talks on implementing the proposal under consideration immediately," the radicals said in a statement on their Telegram channel.
Hamas said its response was positive, without elaborating.
Egypt's Al-Qahera Al-Ikhbariya television reported, citing sources, that Cairo and Doha continue their efforts to reach an agreement on Gaza.
On Friday, Al-Ghad television reported that Hamas’ response to the ceasefire proposal would differ slightly from the initiative of US special envoy Steve Witkoff, as tweaked by mediators from Egypt and Qatar. Sources said Hamas would present "its new vision" on three disputed clauses and will not demand a mandatory 30-day extension of the ceasefire after the 60-day truce ends. However, the group believes it is still necessary to continue negotiations until a complete agreement is reached on Gaza. Al-Ghad also reported that Hamas will demand that humanitarian aid be brought into the enclave in quantities that are sufficient to meet the demand for food and medicine.
