MOSCOW: Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov has said that the messenger has never disclosed a single byte of private messages in its 12-year history.
"In its 12-year history, Telegram has never disclosed a single byte of private messages," he wrote.
In accordance with the EU Digital Services Act, if provided with a valid court order, Telegram would only disclose the IP addresses and phone numbers of criminal suspects, not messages, Durov added.
He commented on the fact that the French Senate has passed a draft law requiring messengers to implement a backdoor allowing law enforcement bodies to gain access to private messages. The initiative has been dismissed by the National Assembly.
"Telegram would rather exit a market than undermine encryption with backdoors and violate basic human rights. Unlike some of our competitors, we don’t trade privacy for market share," Durov stressed.
