WASHINGTON: Russia’s new Ambassador to the US Alexander Darchiev has arrived in Washington, an official at the Russian embassy told TASS.
"[The ambassador] has exited [the plane]," the official said.
Earlier, an aircraft carrying Darchiev landed at Washington’s Dulles International Airport.
Alexander Darchiev has been involved in the diplomatic service since 1992. Until recently, he headed the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department of the North Atlantic. He served as Russian Ambassador to Canada in 2014-2021. Darchiev worked at the Russian Embassy in Washington in 1997-2002 and 2005-2010. He is fluent in English and French.
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree appointing Darchiev as Moscow’s ambassador to Washington on March 6.
Russia’s previous ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, ended his tenure on October 5, 2024.
