WASHINGTON: US Democratic Congressman Al Green has announced his intention to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump during a House of Representatives hearing, broadcast by the C-SPAN TV channel.
Commenting on Trump's statement that the US should take the Gaza Strip and transform the territory into a "Middle Eastern Riviera," Green described such actions as "ethnic cleansing." "The movement to impeach the president has begun. I rise to announce that I will bring Articles of Impeachment against the president for dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done," he pointed out at a hearing on the matter.
Trump is the first president in US history to be subjected to impeachment proceedings twice. Both cases occurred during his first term, in 2019 and 2021, but were rejected by the Senate.
