WASHINGTON: United States President Joe Biden is to deliver his State of the Union address on Thursday.
Biden will begin delivering his annual speech to legislators, broadcast live throughout the country by news channels, at 09:00 PM EST (05:00 AM Friday Moscow time).
This will be his fourth speech of this kind. The first one was delivered at the end of April 2021, three months after Biden took office as head of state. In this regard, it was not formally a State of the Union address, which usually sums up the work of the past year and announces plans for the future. The 46th President of the United States delivered his first full State of the Union address in March 2022.
Biden, who is running for re-election to a second term in office, simply must use this speech to try to dispel the growing doubts of his fellow citizens about his ability to effectively govern the country, including due to his age. The recent polls show that in the election race, Donald Trump, whose nomination as the presidential candidate of the Republican Party is almost guaranteed is far ahead of Democrat Biden.
The abstracts of the address will not be made public in advance. This time, the White House, in fact, did not even outline the main topics of the speech.
Nevertheless, the American leader’s associates made it clear that Biden’s intends to oppose himself to Trump. Moreover, there is no data yet on whether the president will mention his political opponent by name.
As a White House spokesman told Axios, Biden plans to call for "saving our democracy," and a "unity agenda" as opposed to Trump, who, in the opinion of the 46th US President, brings turmoil and deepening divisions to society.
