Dubai: Israel has claimed that Alireza Tangsiri, the Naval Chief of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was killed in an airstrike. According to international media citing official Israeli sources, he was killed in an attack near the port city of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran on March 26, 2026.
The strike took place in the strategic city of Bandar Abbas, located near the Strait of Hormuz. Alireza Tangsiri was the head of Iran's naval power and the primary mastermind behind military maneuvers in the Strait of Hormuz.
Under Tangsiri’s leadership, moves had been made to disrupt shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. This attack is being viewed as Israel's retaliation against those actions.
While Israeli media have confirmed the incident, Iran has not yet issued an official response.
The Israel-Iran conflict, which began in February 2026, has reached an extremely critical stage. For several weeks, Israel has been conducting continuous strikes targeting top Iranian military officials.
There are existing unconfirmed reports that Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and former security advisor Ali Larijani were killed in previous attacks.
Tangsiri’s death is considered a major blow to Iran's naval capabilities. As the Strait of Hormuz is a vital route for global oil transit, his passing could further complicate regional security and potentially lead to a spike in oil prices and global market instability.
