IRKUTSK: Western countries hope to block integration processes and undermine CIS countries from within, said director of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) Alexander Bortnikov.
"The West hopes to block integration processes, undermine CIS countries from within, force peoples to forget their shared history, and pit them against each other, establish its own dominance here," he said at a meeting of the Council of Heads of CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) members’ Security Agencies and Special Services.
The environment on the CIS’ external borders and within the Commonwealth is becoming challenging, the FSB chief said. "Threats are growing on many fronts: international terrorism, political and religious extremism, organized crime and drug trafficking, cyberattacks and information warfare," he added.
In this regard, Bortnikov noted that it is extremely important to objectively assess the situation and jointly protect the interests of CIS states, "which are interconnected much more strongly than in relations with any external players."
