Tehran: Senior military officer Ahmad Vahidi, the former Minister of Defense and Minister of Interior, has been appointed as the new Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), an elite branch of the Iranian Armed Forces. He was officially named Commander-in-Chief after serving as the interim head of the IRGC for the past six months.
This appointment follows a joint military operation by U.S. and Israeli coalition forces, during which the previous Revolutionary Guard Commander-in-Chief, Mohammad Pakpur, was reportedly killed alongside Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Vahidi is one of the original founding members of the IRGC. He previously served as the commander of the Quds Force, the unit responsible for coordinating Iran's foreign military operations.
He has played a definitive role in shaping Iran's defense strategies and establishing its regional alliances.
In the wake of the recent military actions by the U.S. and Israel, Vahidi has emerged as the central figure in developing Iran's strategic military response and plans for retaliation.
