MOSCOW: US President Donald Trump has asked his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to refrain from striking Kiev until February 1 "in order to establish favorable conditions for negotiations," Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
"Indeed, President Trump made a personal request to Putin to refrain from striking Kiev for a week, until February 1, in order to foster favorable conditions for negotiations," the Kremlin spokesman stated.
Peskov did not clarify whether Russia had responded to Trump’s proposal to halt the strikes. "I have nothing to add to what I have already said," he concluded.
Earlier, Trump said he had personally asked Putin to order Russian forces to stop striking Kiev and other cities in Ukraine for one week due to cold temperatures. According to Trump, the Russian leader agreed to the request.
