DUBAI: Tehran is ready to resume indirect talks with Washington on the nuclear issue, provided that it is confident the US and Israel will not attack the country again, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with the Asharq Al Awsat newspaper.
"We are ready to hold indirect talks with the US if the Americans assure us that they will not initiate any military action during these talks. We must receive guarantees that these will be honest and fair negotiations that meet the interests of both sides and are based on mutual benefit," the top diplomat said.
According to the minister, the US attack on nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan did not affect Iran's position. The country continues to defend its right to enrich uranium within its borders. "The negotiations were in full swing when Israel attacked us, after which America joined in. Therefore, if new negotiations take place, they will definitely not be like the previous ones," Araghchi added.
In the early morning hours of June 13, Israel launched a military operation against Iran. Less than 24 hours later, Iran retaliated. Nine days later, on the morning of June 22, US jets attacked Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, entering the conflict. The following evening, Tehran launched a missile strike on Al Udeid, the largest US military airbase in the region, located in Qatar. On June 24, US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a complete ceasefire.
