VATICAN CITY: Pope Francis has had a bronchial spasm and was in need of urgent medical aid, the press service of the Holy See said.

It specified that the bronchial spasm adversely affected his breathing. "The Pope’s condition required non-invasive lung ventilation," the Vatican said.
