MOSCOW: The United States will not do away with its propaganda-peddling media, regardless of what Elon Musk says, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
Talking to the Komsomolskaya Pravda daily, Zakharova was asked to speculate why Musk, now in charge of the US Department of Government Efficiency, said that he wants shut down the Voice of America radio station (designated a foreign-agent news media outlet in Russia) and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (designated a foreign-agent news media outlet in Russia and listed as an undesirable organization), replying, "Because they are not promoting American foreign policy, only spreading the ultra-liberal ideology to oppose their opponents inside America."
Nevertheless, in her words, the United States will not get rid of its "propaganda resources," instead "only adjusting them to new realities."
Musk earlier suggested closing down Voice of America and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. "Nobody listens to them anymore," he wrote on X. "It’s just radical left crazy people talking to themselves while torching $1B/year of US taxpayer money.".
