SIRIUS /Federal Territory: Russia's nuclear potential ensures its full sovereignty, and the United States understands the consequences of its use, said Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the National Research Center Kurchatov Institute.
"We are one of the few, essentially the only, sovereign country. Because only we can turn America into nuclear ashes, as they themselves write. And in this sense, we have a 'security blanket.’ But we must think about what will happen tomorrow," Kovalchuk said at the session entitled "New Materials and Chemistry: The Most Important Delivery System for Russia's Technological Leadership" at the 4th Congress of Young Scientists.
He noted that Russia should continue strengthening this potential.
"[It is also necessary to consider] what will replace [nuclear technologies] in the near future - biological weapons, or something else," he added.
About the Congress
The 4th Congress of Young Scientists is taking place in the Federal Territory Sirius from November 27-29. The organizers define it as the largest platform for dialogue between advanced and fundamental science, government authorities, and the real sector of the economy. More than 7,000 participants from 40 countries are expected to take part in the Congress in 2024. The CYS business program includes roundtable discussions, expert sessions, and panel discussions. The Congress’ site hosts exhibition areas of the largest Russian companies, leading universities, research and educational centers, and other organizations. A forum of young scientists from the BRICS countries and the BRICS Young Innovators contest are also underway.
The Congress, which is part of the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia, is organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Coordination Council for Youth Affairs in the Scientific and Educational Spheres of the Presidential Council for Science and Education, the autonomous nonprofit organization National Priorities, and the Roscongress Foundation.
