MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Kazakhstan on November 9 was successful for relations between the two countries, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
The issue of relations between Kazakhstan and France didn’t come up at the talks, he said, when asked whether French President Emmanuel Macron, who also visited Kazakhstan recently, passed any messages for Moscow through Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
"No, the issue of Kazakh-French relations was not on the agenda, nor should it have been," the spokesman said.
He said Astana's relations with Paris and relations between Moscow and Astana are "completely separate areas of engagement."
"We have our own relations with Kazakhstan. They are special, strategic relations of allies and partners," the spokesman said.
"It was a very convenient occasion yesterday to compare notes and discuss current issues," he said. "The agenda of our relations is huge. The political will, technological and logistical readiness to continue and expand this engagement in all areas has been reaffirmed. The visit was successful."
Putin paid an official visit to Kazakhstan on November 9. He held talks with Tokayev, and they also took part in the forum of interregional cooperation. Following the talks, a package of documents was signed, including a joint statement dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty between Russia and Kazakhstan on Good-neighborly Relations and Alliance in the 21st century.
Macron paid an official visit to Kazakhstan on November 1. As Peskov noted earlier, Kazakhstan is a sovereign state and develops relations with other countries as it sees fit.
