MOSCOW: Ukrainian pilot Alexander Morozov, detained after his plane crash-landed in western Russia’s Bryansk Region, was transferred to Moscow’s Lefortovo prison after his case had been referred to Moscow judicial authorities, a law enforcement source has told TASS.
"Alexander Morozov, charged with unlawfully crossing the Russian border, smuggling of firearms and ammunition through the state border and an act of sabotage has been taken to the Lefortovo jail for further investigation. His case has also been handed over to Moscow," the source said.
In turn, Moscow’s Lefortovsky Court said investigators had requested to extend the suspect’s pretrial custody and this motion had been granted.
According to investigators, the Ukrainian citizen illegally crossed the Russian border flying an A-22 ultralight plane, with the goal of committing unlawful actions on the Russian territory. His plane crash-landed in the Klintsovsky District of the Bryansk Region after hitting a high-voltage power transmission line. The pilot had no ID or permission to enter Russia. He was arrested on April 7.
