New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has won the by-election by 58,832 votes in Bhawanipur. Mamata Banerjee defeated BJP candidate Priyanka Tibrewal in the Bhavanipur constituency by an overwhelming majority.
The BJP was all set to defeat Mamata.The BJP got only 26,320 votes. The CPM candidate is not even in the picture here.
The BJP had shifted state and national leaders to 80 wards in the constituency. The BJP has made very precise election preparations here.
In the May Assembly elections, Mamata Banerjee failed at Nandigram. Mamata Banerjee contested in Nandigram after accepting the challenge of her one-time confidant, Suvendu Adhikari. Despite the defeat, Mamata became the Chief Minister.
In Bhavanipur, Trinamool Agriculture Minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay won in May elections. After his resignation, Mamata Banerjee contested again in Bhavanipur. Bhawanipur is a constituency where Mamata has won twice.
The by-polls were held in Jangipur and Samserganj constituencies of Murshidabad district following the death of candidates.
