Moscow: Foreign football fans who attempted to enter Europe through Russian territory with FIFA World Cup Fan IDs will be expelled from the country, Russian First Deputy Interior Minister Aleksandr Gorovoy said on Monday.
"Foreign citizens who stayed legally in Russia with Fan IDs but tried to cross the border with Western countries via (Russia's) Kaliningrad, Murmansk and Leningrad regions will be expelled. They have violated their purpose of stay and will be expelled from Russia," Gorovoy said, reports Sputnik news agency.
Gorovoy added that the majority of the individuals were citizens of Kenya, Morocco, and other African countries.
The Fan ID, a FIFA-issued identification card for all match ticket holders needed to enter World Cup stadiums, replaced usually strict Russian visas.
In late June, Finnish media reported that the country's authorities were looking at five asylum applications from people who arrived in Finland through Russia with Fan IDs.

Ronaldo arrives at J Medical clinic for Juventus medical check-up
Portugal's most famous football player on Monday arrived at J Medical, the private clinic property of Juventus team, to undergo a medical check-up prior to formalising his Turin squad transfer.
Football star Cristiano Ronaldo reached here on Sunday after spending a brief holiday in Greece, and reported at J Medical at around 10.10 hrs (8.10 GMT.), reports Efe.
A Juventus official Twitter account statement read: "First hugs of Juventus FC fans to Cristiano Ronaldo, about to start his medical visit with the Juventus club."
Dressed in a black suit and white shirt, Ronaldo will undergo a medical check-up and if all goes well, as expected, he will sign a four-year contract with La Juve, which comes with a 31 million euro ($36.3 million) salary per season.
Around the clinic, hundreds of supporters and onlookers cheered Ronaldo as they sought autographs and selfies with the football star.
The Portuguese player arrived on Sunday afternoon by his private aircraft along with his mother and his Spanish girlfriend Georgina RodrÃguez.
On Monday, at 18.30 local time (16.30 GMT), Ronaldo will hold his first press conference with his Juve colors at the Allianz Stadium's elegant Gianni and Umberto Agnelli hall.
The Portuguese legend left Real Madrid after playing for 9 seasons and winning 16 trophies, including four Champion Leagues, scoring 451 goals in a total of 438 matches.
His transfer to Juventus marks the most expensive contract in soccer history.
As Juventus player, he will, once again, wear his number 7, gracefully conceded by La Juve's Colombian player, Juan Guillermo Cuadrado, who will revert to his number 16 shirt.
Cuadrado wrote on Instagram "It is better to give than to receive (...) Blessings to Cristiano in this new adventure."
