PYONGYANG: North Korea has tested a newly-developed lightweight multi-purpose missile launching system and multiple tactical cruise missile weapon system, while Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Leader Kim Jong Un supervised the event, which took place at the Missile Administration and the Academy of Defense Sciences’ testing ground, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
The tests analyzed and assessed the power of a special mission warhead of tactical ballistic missile, the reliability of a 240mm controlled artillery rocket with expanded firing range which employed an ultra-precision autonomous navigation system, and the AI-guided hit accuracy of a tactical cruise missile. Kim Jong Un praised the results, calling them significant technical progress in strengthening the army’s defense capability.
Particular attention was paid to the new tactical cruise missile, which, according to KCNA, will be adopted by long-range artillery brigades in the southern border region. It combines a high-precision navigation system with AI technology for terminal guidance and is capable of striking targets up to 100 kilometers away in both gliding and propulsion modes.
Kim Jong Un noted that the fire control systems and launcher automation have been completely modernized to meet modern combat conditions, ensuring the automated, long-range, and highly accurate characteristics of the new weapons. He emphasized that "such capability will give extreme uneasiness and fear to the enemy, and it will be a major link and a responsible exercise for deterring war."
The DPRK leader declared the Party and government's unwavering commitment to rapidly strengthening both nuclear and conventional armed forces. He instructed the defense departments to accelerate the production of state-of-the-art weapons to guarantee sovereignty and the development of socialism.
The event was attended by high-ranking military officials, including Marshal Pak Jong Chon, advisor to the Ministry of National Defense, and the leadership of the DPRK Missile Administration. The tests are being conducted as part of the five-year national defense development plan, which includes modernizing artillery and missile forces.
