MOSCOW: The creation of super heavy-lift carrier drones that can be used to deliver thousands of light unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is just around the corner, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev pointed out in an article for Expert Magazine.
He noted that the rapid growth in the global production of unmanned systems has created a qualitatively new spectrum of threats to a wide range of facilities: metropolitan areas, energy, social, and other critical infrastructure, as well as defense industries and military bases. "It is here, taking into account the combat experience of the special military operation, that a set of fundamentally new capabilities has already emerged," Medvedev noted. "The development and widespread deployment of new types of UAV platforms, autonomous naval vessels for deploying various unmanned systems, and the creation of super heavy-lift UAV carriers, which can also act as relays and delivery vehicles for hundreds and thousands of light drones, are just around the corner."
The Russian Security Council deputy chief noted that, thanks to the optimization of control systems and algorithms — through improved AI technologies and big data analysis — simultaneously assigning tasks to an entire "swarm" of UAVs under the control of a single operator is no longer a problem. The effective range of UAVs and the volume of information transmitted have been increased using modern telecommunications systems, including satellite communications.
