Bhavana on a public stage with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: Reports are gaining momentum in political circles suggesting that actress Bhavana may contest as a Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate in the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections. It is indicated that Bhavana's name is being actively considered as part of the CPI(M)'s strategy to field widely accepted 'surprise' candidates in the upcoming polls.

Bhavana recently attended the official Christmas feast hosted by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and has been a guest at several other government events. The Left has consistently offered strong support for the courageous stances the actress has taken on various social issues. However, neither Bhavana nor the CPI(M) leadership has officially confirmed these reports yet.

If Bhavana gives her consent, the party intends to offer her a safe constituency where she has the highest probability of winning. Discussions are underway to allot her either a seat in the Thrissur district or another secure constituency where she has strong family roots.

In the past, the actress had avoided questions regarding elections within the AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) organization. She has not yet made any public statements regarding a potential entry into active politics.

Political observers evaluate that the immense public support Bhavana enjoys could translate into significant votes. The term of the current Legislative Assembly ends in May 2026, and greater clarity regarding the candidate list is expected in the coming days.

The actress, currently busy with promotional events for her new film Anomie, has remained tight-lipped about her political entry. She plays the role of Sara Philip, a forensic analyst, in the movie, which is scheduled for release on February 6, 2026. She recently mentioned that she is fully occupied with film commitments and is appearing in public forums after a long hiatus.

The fact that Bhavana has become more active in public spaces lately has strengthened rumors of a political move. The leadership believes her firm social stances will benefit the party. The LDF is reportedly interested in fielding popular faces like Bhavana as independent candidates to counter potential anti-incumbency.

In recent interviews, Bhavana shared that she is going through mixed emotions and described herself as being in a "silent struggle."

Meanwhile, there are reports that Bheeman Raghu, who joined the CPI(M) in 2023, is keen to contest this time. His political alignment and active participation in party programs support this possibility.

Conversely, there are hints that Mukesh, the current MLA from Kollam, may not be granted a seat again. Although the LDF is considering relaxations to the 'two-term' rule, it is understood that Mukesh might not receive that benefit.
