MOSCOW: Dialogue between the Russian and US presidents, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, has led to a major shift in public opinion in Russia, giving a serious opportunity for de-escalation, Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), said.
"Putin-Trump dialogue led to historic shift in Russian public opinion. Russians naming the U.S. as "hostile" dropped from 75% to 40%. Support for normalizing ties with the West jumped from 52% to 80%. Dialogue works. People listen. Major deescalation opportunity," he wrote on his X page, citing opinion polls.
Putin and Trump held their fourth phone call in 2025 on June 4. During a 70-minute conversation, the two leaders discussed the situation around Ukraine. Putin informed his American counterpart about the results of the Istanbul talks and briefed him about the Kiev regime’s terror attacks.
