MOSCOW: The antagonistic policy course of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is based on the principles of aggressive military planning and Russia must take this into account in its defense strategy, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko told TASS.
"The trend of recent years is that quasi-unions are being formed within NATO’s framework where countries, by pooling their military resources, try to optimize the military structure to be more efficient. To us, it is obvious that all these trends are directed against Russia’s security interests and motivated by Russophobia," the senior Russian diplomat said.
"The most important thing for us, of course, is that such antagonistic policy is based on hostile military planning which we are forced to take into account and will take into account in our defense plans in order to firmly ensure both our security and defense capabilities," Grushko emphasized.
He also highlighted the fact that Russia sees that NATO’s aggressive ambitions are transforming Northern Europe into a potential battleground of military confrontation, even though the Northern European region and the Baltic Sea "have traditionally been among the most peaceful areas in military terms."
The deputy foreign minister noted that Moscow will use all available means to ensure its defense strength amid the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s aggressive aspirations. "We will keep a close eye on how the situation develops. If the need arises, we will make and implement further appropriate decisions," the senior diplomat stressed.
