BEIRUT: Syria’s interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa has congratulated the nation with the formation of a new cabinet of ministers, calling it the government of construction and changes.
"Our country is entering a new historical period on its way to a better future," he noted. "We are announcing the formation of a government of construction and changes which will rebuild and reform," he said. The Syrian president’s speech is being aired by Al Hadath.
"I assure the people of Syria that we are starting to build a strong and stable state, which will guarantee the interests of the nation as a whole and of every citizen," al-Sharaa added.
He also said the new government’s work will be transparent. "We will not allow our state institutions to be tainted by corruption," he added.
The foreign and defense ministers
The foreign and defense ministers in Syria’s transitional government, Asaad al-Shaibani and Murhaf Abu Qasra, have retained their posts in the new government.
Both ministers delivered speeches at a ceremony at Syria’s Presidential Palace (Qasr ash-Shaab).
The minister of social affairs and labor
The only woman in the government is Hind Kabawat, who was appointed the country’s new minister of social affairs and labor.
Others
Anas Hassan Khattab, who headed Syria’s General Intelligence Service, was appointed minister of the interior.
Mazhar al-Wais was appointed justice minister, Nidal al-Shaar - economic minister, Mohammed al-Bashir - energy minister, Musab Nazzal al-Ali - health minister.
According to previous reports, the new cabinet will comprise 23 ministers. It will be led by interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa.
