COLOMBO: Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and a number of government ministers have toured the Hambantota International Port (HIP), inspecting the construction of new factories in the port's industrial park and the port's first bonded warehouse, the HIP said in a statement on Wednesday.
Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG) CEO Johnson Liu briefed the prime minister on the plan for the HIP's industrial park, HIPG's tree planting project to protect the environment, and HIPG's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives like Hope Village which is designed to develop livelihoods in agriculture and livestock for local communities.
During his tour, Rajapaksa laid the foundation for the first bonded warehouse at the HIP. Rajapaksa also inspected projects in the HIP's industrial park including a tire factory.
