NEW DELHI: India will begin granting fresh tourist visas to foreigners coming to India through chartered flights from Oct. 15, the federal home ministry announced Thursday.
"Foreign tourists entering into India by flights other than chartered aircraft would be able to do so only with effect from November 15, 2021 on fresh tourist visas," reads a statement issued by the home ministry.
The ministry said visiting foreign tourists and carriers bringing them, besides other stakeholders, at landing stations have to adhere to all protocols and norms relating to COVID-19 as notified by the federal health ministry from time to time.
All visas granted to foreigners were suspended in India last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision to grant visas to foreign tourists was taken after receiving representations from several state governments as well as various stakeholders in the tourism sector.
