MOSCOW: CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and the Russian president’s special representative for economic cooperation with foreign countries, Kirill Dmitriev, announced that he is holding meetings in Washington on April 2-3 with representatives of US President Donald Trump’s administration. He expressed hope that a genuine understanding of Russia’s position would open new avenues for constructive engagement, particularly in the investment and economic sectors.
"The dialogue between Russia and the United States - one of the most crucial for the entire world - was completely dismantled under the Biden administration. Today, numerous forces around the world, intent on maintaining tensions, stand in the way of restoring constructive engagement. These forces deliberately distort Russia’s position and spare no effort or resources to derail any steps toward dialogue," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Dmitriev emphasized that restoring dialogue with the United States is a challenging and gradual process. "However, every meeting and every candid conversation allows us to move forward. A genuine understanding of Russia’s position opens new opportunities for constructive engagement, including investments and the economic sphere," he added.
At the same time, Dmitriev noted that opponents of rapprochement fear that Russia and the United States might find common ground, develop a deeper mutual understanding, and build cooperation - both in international affairs and in the economic domain. He also promised to provide brief comments following the meetings.
On Wednesday, it was reported that Dmitriev and US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff were holding a meeting in Washington. Dmitriev became the first high-ranking Russian official since 2022 to visit the US capital for negotiations. According to CNN, citing sources, the visit is aimed at strengthening Russia-US relations and exploring ways to end the conflict in Ukraine.
