BRUSSELS: The EU’s 13th package of sanctions targets companies from China, India and Turkey, the Brussels-based portal Euractiv reported citing its own sources.
The new restrictions apply to three mainland Chinese companies. The EU bans its businesses from any contacts with these companies which are accused of "involvement in supplying sensitive military technology to Russia" that was allegedly "ending up on the Ukrainian battlefield."
Trade restrictions for the first time were also applied to Indian and Turkish companies that are allegedly aiding Russia’s military-industrial complex "to access banned components and technologies."
As part of the new package, the EU imposed an asset freeze and visa ban on North Korea’s defense minister, Kang Sun Nam, for the alleged supply of ballistic missiles to Moscow.
Earlier Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called Washington’s allegations that Pyongyang is providing military assistance to Moscow as rumors.
According to the portal, the 13th package also provides for supply of technologies and electronics, such as chips, machines and ball bearings used by Russia’s defense industry
According to the authors of the publication, the written procedure for the official approval of these sanctions in the EU Council will be completed by February 24, after which the community will immediately begin to work on the 14th package.
