MOSCOW: The 46th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) will be held on April 19-26, 2024, while the main venue for the film festival will be the Oktyabr Film Center, the MIFF directorate said in a press release.
"The Moscow International Film Festival announces the dates of the event in 2024: The 46th MIFF will be held from April 19 to 26. The festival’s main film screenings will be shown at the traditional venue, the Oktyabr Film Center," the press release reads.
According to the organizers, the deadline for submitting applications to take part in the 46th MIFF’s competitive and non-competitive programs will be announced at a later date. Over 200 films are shown in ten cinemas in Moscow every year as part of the festival. The 45th MIFF was attended by 38,000 spectators, while films from 64 countries were presented in competitive and non-competitive programs. The winner of the 45th MIFF was the film "Tres hermanos" directed by Francisco Paparella.
The Moscow Film Festival was first held in 1935. In 1995 it was announced that the film festival would become an annual event, but in 1996 and 1998 the festival was not held. Since 1999, the MIFF has been held every year. Through 2017, it was held in late-June; since 2018 it has been held in mid-April. Celebrated filmmaker Nikita Mikhalkov, the doyen of Russian cinema, serves as president of the MIFF.
