He had been absent from acting for some time due to ill health. He has acted in more than 100 serials and 46 films.
He is the son of famous playwright TN Gopinathan Nair. He is survived by wife Geethalakshmi. He runs a charity trust called 'Thanal' with his wife for mentally challenged children. Ravi Vallathol is the nephew of famous poet Vallathol Narayana Menon.
In 1976 he made his debut as a lyricist by writing the song "Thazhvarayil manju peythu ..." in the movie Madhuram Thirumadhuram. He has written many short stories.
Swathi Thirunal directed by Lenin Rajendran is the first movie starring Ravi Vallathol. He then acted in films like Adoor's Nalu Pennangal, Vidheyan, Mathilukal, Kottayam Kanjachan, Vishnulokam, Sargam, Commissioner and Idukki Gold.
In 1986, he made his serial debut in 'Vaitharani' which was aired by Doordarshan. The screenplay was written by T.N Gopinathan Nair. He won the State Television Award for Best Actor for his role in the series 'American Dreams'.
He was educated at Sisuvihar Model High School, Mar Ivanios College and Karyavattam Kerala University Campus. He was a classmate of Jagathy Sreekumar at Mar Ivanios College.
